When does a chip need a full windscreen replacement?
A chip becomes a replacement once the damage is in the driver's direct line of sight, larger than a £1 coin, or running into the windscreen edge or seal. Cracks longer than about 4cm, multiple impact points, or damage that's contaminated with dirt or moisture also push the job from repair to replacement. Send a photo with your quote and we'll tell you straight which side of the line it sits on.
What does "OEM-grade" windscreen glass mean?
The glass we fit matches the original specification for your make, model and year — same thickness, same tint, same acoustic and heated-element wiring, same camera mount geometry for ADAS-equipped cars. We don't fit budget non-spec glass on cars that left the factory with anything more involved, because the calibration won't line up and the warranty won't stand.
How long does a windscreen replacement take?
A standard replacement is around an hour from arrival to drive-away. ADAS-equipped cars need an additional 30–60 minutes for in-vehicle camera recalibration — front-facing camera systems for lane assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control. We do the calibration on-site so there's no separate dealer trip.
Insurance, claims, and the excess
Most comprehensive UK policies cover windscreen replacement under a separate glass clause, with a fixed excess (usually £75–£100) and no impact on your no-claims bonus. We're approved by Aviva, Allianz, LV=, AXA, NFU, AA and the rest of the majors; we handle the claim end-to-end so you don't get on the phone to your insurer at all.
