Repair vs replace — what we can save
A repair works when the damage is smaller than a £1 coin, isn't in the driver's direct line of sight, hasn't run into the windscreen edge, and hasn't been contaminated by dirt or moisture. That covers most stone chips, bullseyes, and short crack lines. Send us a photo with your quote — if it's repairable, we'll tell you; if it's not, we'll tell you that too rather than waste your time.
Why catching a chip early matters
A chip stays repairable for as long as you keep dirt and water out of it. Driving for a week with an unprotected chip — through rain, road grit, or temperature swings — turns repairable damage into a crack and a full replacement. Same on cold mornings: defrosting with hot water on a chipped windscreen is almost guaranteed to crack the screen. Best to book the repair the day you notice the chip.
How does windscreen chip repair actually work?
We clean the impact point, vacuum out the air with a small bridge tool, then inject low-viscosity resin under pressure. The resin cures under UV light and bonds to the glass — restoring structural integrity, stopping the chip spreading, and removing most of the visible mark. Done in 20–40 minutes; you drive away immediately, no curing time.
Cost and insurance
Repairs are typically £50–£90 paid privately. On comprehensive insurance with most major UK insurers, chip and crack repair is covered with NO excess — it's free at point of use. We handle the insurance side; you don't need to call your insurer.
